For a career in medicine, what A level are best ?

  • 0 votes

I was thinking Biology, Chemistry, Maths

I was also thinking about Physics instead of maths , and maybe english language thrown in too ...

But, I don't know is English and physics nesessary ? My cousin told me that Physics is better than biology, becasue biology is a soft subject and you have to remember more (no problemo) and they would still take me in for medicine.. but like, she's oold, (LOL) so I don't know if her advice is accurate....

The best universities require Chemistry (you MUST have Chemistry) and 2 others of Biology, Physics or Maths. I want to be a doctor as well, and i'm taking Biology, Chemistry Physics and Music at AS (i'll then drop music and do three sciences at A level).

Biology isn't a soft subject, and it's as valued by universities as Physics.

Hope this helps :) (and maybe i'll see you at med school ;)

Biology and Chemistry are the most important and Maths and Physics would be helpful but if there is a subject that you enjoy more than Maths or Physics take that instead as there is not much point taking a subject you don't enjoy. If you have certain unis in mind, take a look at their websites under entry requirements as it tells you what they are looking for.

but i dont really think you will need maths you might have to check what specific Uni's want. one of my mates is doing medicine at Uni and he did maths AS but dropped it at A2. and he still got in so i dont think you do need it but not sure, have a look at what the unis want

i know i'm not the dumbest it's just that when your teacher doesn't seem to pay attention to you and likes and treats the other students better you feel weak.

You don't have to do maths, i'm not doing it... it's just supposed to help with physics, and it can count as a science when applying for med school

you can do 3 sciences and not do maths and get into med school, or 2 sciences and maths

And Cambridge doesn't require maths, if you have 3A*s in biology chemistry and physics, you'll be accepted

or 2A*s and an A, or sometimes even one A* and 2 As, depending on what else you have on your application (work experience, volunteer work etc)

they also care about your personality when you go to the interview. they don't want someone who's sloppy, rude, disrespectful etc.

I'm only in year 10, so I still have time :3 LOL

But I just wanted to think ahead.

Right now, I definately want Biology and Chemistry, and I will decide Maths or Physics after I've done the GCSE's in it... I'm taking triple, so.... I will see what I get for physics and if I will enjoy it at A level, I didnt like it much at primary but now, in P1, It not bad... maybe my love for physics will grow? And.. I'm good at maths, but I hate it's guts.. LOL

Hehe.. I remember primary school when all we did was friction. Frickin friction!!!!!!From then, I seriously disliked the topic (EXCEPT THE UNIVERSE STUFF, MAN THATS LIKE AWWEESOOOMMEE) But i'm beginning to see a brighter side.

and well, Chemistry is just my baby man, I love it to biiits! I thought I would love biology, but.. it's okay.. maybe because it was the first evr thing I did and I wasn't ready? I can only tell when I do additional..

I hate my science teacher. She can't teach seriously. When we ask her a simple Physics or Biology question, she says: "Oh, I studied Chemistry so i don't know" THE WHY ARE YOU A TEACHER?!

Answered Wed 16th May, 2012 @ 21:20 by LP-FTW

Ahahahaha!!!

I have 2 science teachers, one of them that teaches once a week  is Physics mad and she keeps going of on tangents, and then saying 'you probably don't need to know that' and in biology, she kept dissing the animals latin names! ' Biology has to be complicated' are her words. she doesn't even bother pronouncing them.

NEWS JUST IN :She's taking two of our lessons next year. Lord have mercy.

You only need chemistry the other a levels just make up the UMS marks so that you can get into a decent uni but the sciences are always favoured but not essential except chemistry also English and maths are also highly sort for :D
