hi, so are you in yr10? I did my first work experience in yr10 in my primary school and i really enjoyed it. I was worried as i had never done anything like it before so i didn't know what to expect. but it all turned out fine. I worked in all the years, but my favourite was working with the yr 5 and 6 children. I basically did everything that you see teaching assistants do from helping the pupils with work, to putting up displays. I also enjoyed supervising lunchtimes which i was allowed to do on my own on the last day. I plan to go back there for my yr12 work experience, I'll be writing the letter this weekend, as it's a school i can't send it off during half term. Do you know where you want to go yet? If you do make sure you send of all the letters and forms and get everything sorted soon, if you leave it it's hard to find a placement.

i'm in yr 11 now and am looking for a work experience placement. I like the idea of primary school so i might try that. Thanks for the advice :)

- What kind of papers do you have to send if you want placement in a primary school?

are you doing work experience through your school? I just ment the papers your work experience co ordinator gives you, the health and safety forms and risk assesments. If you arn't doing it through your school i don't think you need any paperwork. the paperwork is just so that your school are covered by insurance and by the law incase anything goes wrong. I just assumed that you were doing it through your school

I did mine few weeks ago, on 15th October (the whole week) .. it was good fun :) As I did it from school we just had to tell our school a career of our choice and they find it for us. First I wanted to do finance but everyone was so all the good placements were going so in the end I changed it and decided to do Project Management and Engineering with Transport for London. I really enjoyed it because my empolyer, she arranged a wide range of visits in order for me to experience the different departments and the different jobs you can do for the company. I had the chance to be a train driver :), check out the service control see what they do, check out the lost property office, the museums and then also jobs involved in that company itself, which included project manager, engineering, administrator, and there were many more.

Where you planning to do it ?

If you have an idea of what kind of career you want to have or what degree you want to do at uni, work from there and try to find work experience related to it. My top tip is to book it way in advance and not leave it to the last minute as places fill really quickly.

i am planning to get into medicine at uni and i am going to work experience at maxillofacial. This company is the surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck. I am aiming to become a dentist so the lady at NHS suggested maxillofacial would be the best option at the age of 15. so i took it. :) but i want to do other work experiences else where because it is important that i have a lot of work experience. So has anyone got any suggestions? btw i am going to be 16 in january so not far away till i can find a proper job. :)

So do you want to do medicine or dentistry at uni? I am a bit confused as you say you want to do medicine at uni but become a dentist and dentistry at uni is seperate to medicine.

As for work experience, try at your local dentists as I am sure they would be happy to help. you could also do volunteering with different age groups like the elderly or Guides/Scouts as it shows you can work/communicate with a variety of people which is very important for both careers.

I've applied for Vet Med so know what it is like trying to get work experience. Good Luck!!
