Explain why Alexander II decided on a policy of reform in Russia

Alexander II made many reforms in his time, one of the major ones was the emancipation of the serfs.

Emancipation of serf reason:

he thought it was inhumane and unsensitive publicly condemned that it was 'unfair'

Intelligentsia thought it was needed, as he wanted to keep his autocracy he believed emancipating the serfs would stops opposition groups

the EoS would mean that russia could reassert their power and status after the War .
