exothermic and endothermic?! energy diagrams?!

anyone ogt any notes on exothermic and endothermic energy diagrams?! 

i thought in exothermic there was more energy released tan needed to break bonds but the energy diagrams contradict that, really confused ahhaha!

any help will be apprechiated, thankyou!

Exothermic is bond making.. Endothermic is bond breaking. Bond making is exo because the the new product has to get rid the extra energy to be stable. The energy is lost to the surroundings. Energy diagram for exo reactions shows the energy of the products is lower than thr reactant.. This is because the reactants have lost energy and the products will have low amounts of energy ... Energy diagrams shows the energy of the reaction only, if more bonds are formed than being broken, it is an exo process and vice versa.

Exothermic reactions

  • temp. increase
  • energy is being lost to the surroundings/surroundings gain energy
  • enthalpy change is negative
  • enthalpy of reactants is greater than enthalpy of products

Endothermic reactions

  • temp. decrease
  • energy is gained from the surroundings/surroundings lose energy
  • enthalpy change is positive
  • enthalpy of reactants is smaller than enthalpy of products
