Does Anyone know what the best A Level Subjects for medicine are????

Aloha Peeps that are willing to deal with the enquiry....

I have a dilema: Initially, i picked biology, chemistry, maths and french... (and im doing Arabic A level privately - not in sixth form)

I dont know whether to keep french or change it to Physics... (cuz i love both, but i want to choose the best one for medicine and boost my chances in going somewhere like Oxford or Cambridge!!)

Thanks in advance peeps!!! =)

change it 2 physics cuz nowadays it luks beta if u got all sciences

arabic will also look good nd it luks beta as a language

but  idint really tink dat changing dem will boost ur chances

ur doing decent one 4 medicine , but 2 boost ur chances u need 2 stand out nd u can do this by:

doin work experinece/voluntary / unpaind work

loads of extra curricular activities (in and out of school)

and u need like at least 2 a' and one a* to even stand a chance

so do subjects dat u r more likely to get a's and a* in

Hi, to be honest what you've picked there looks good if you know that you can get the grades.

What they really look for is at least two sciences (one being chemistry) and then at least an AS in maths. Anything else is just extra. If you want to get into medicine just make sure the subjects you pick you can get As in because nearly all medical schools (not just oxford and cambridge) want you to get at least all As . Oxbridge and Russel group universities want some A*s in there as well for good meausre.  And from now on medicine will be even more competitive!!

So try and get the grades, but make sure you're not just a bookworm, if you want to stand a chance, a good amount (by that i mean a lot) of work experience needs to be involved to.  But don't get too stressed out because plenty of the top universites give post grad. medicine meaning you can do a degree in something else first, if you dont get them this time round.

Have fun Good Luck and hope you make it!! :)

I've just applied for medicine and got a couple of offers... and can safely say that you do no need physics- I didn't take it. Like you, I took biology, chemistry, maths and french.

My biggest piece of advice would be to chose the subject you ENJOY most, as this is the subject you are most likely to get the grades in. As somebody previously said, you need straight A's for Medicine.

Also bear in mind that med schools do like a bit of variation- taking a language (or 2!) shows that you not just a 'science geek'- you can apply yourself in other ways. Hope this helps, and good luck!
