Coping & Cheating I NEED YOUR ADVICE!

Showing 1 to 25 of 26

I had an exam today and I'm not sure about other exam halls but in the sports hall at my college each desk isn't that far apart.

Anyway, I had this idiot next to me who was coping me. He turned page when I did.

If I turned my head in the direction he was sitting he would immediately look down pretending he wasn't looking even though it was obvious he was and I caught him doing this at least 6 times.

I could see him out of the corner of my eye looking several times therefore I hid my paper away from him. After this he was becoming very fidgety in his chair trying to lean forward and look.

Also I had a lot of time left therefore spent about 2 minutes having a drink and recomposing myself, during these 2 minutes he did nothing and sat there playing with his pen waiting for me to move on.

The funny thing was none of the invigilators saw him do it and I didn't want to put my hand up so after the exam I reported him and the member of staff will be 'dealing with it'.

I've known this person for a long time and they have copied people in the past and he is the kind of person who wouldn't revise.

Another person saw him do it too so they are on my side as a witness

It just annoys me how people have to cheat, especially when I tried so hard and work hard and people will just take credit. It also made me feel uneasy

Did I do the right thing? Has anyone experienced this before? Copying is wrong when it's a real exam isn't it?

Yes cheating is wrong. In my German exams, sometimes we don't do it in a large room (e.g. Sports hall)  everyone cheats! yes! Some put their notes on the ground. some print it out in very small fonts, some put it on their laps, some put it their pencil case etc. It's disgusting. I have never cheated in my life and i never will. What you did was right. That ******* deserved it. But i let people cheat (but not copy me) why?- because they are ruining their advantage of learning and cheating through life. Imagine this. Bob got an A* in his German exam. He's a business man. However he cheated in his GCSE'S.

Tom: hey bob, can you translate this 2 page long document for this German business man. if you could read it out in german as it's in English.

Bob: but-

tom: don't be shy! you got an A* for your Gcse! you'll do great.

Thanks for replying. I feel reassured!

It's stupid what people do because at the end of the day they may get a good grade and look good but it does them not favors in life and will eventually catch up with them like you said.

I would never cheat either as I like the satisfaction that if I get an A* I've done it all by myself. People need to take responsibility and stop being so lazy and revise

No way! Nobody likes him so I think I did everyone a favor aha!

I've figured out several ways in which I COULD cheat, but I don't, because I'm terrified I'd be caught, and at the end of the day, what's the point? :P

lool yh i realise in soo many wayss I cud cheat buttt wat tha point> deres no satisfaction left tuuu get great results.

Yeah completely agree I like to know that I've done it myself and don't want the guilt from cheating. I'm like that in anything though, Sports, etc....

Hey, you absolutely did the right thing.

Once that happened to me as well but I didn't tell anyone about it, and as a consequence I ended up getting a detention cos the teacher thought that I had copied when I hadn't, when I tried to defend myself I got given a longer detention for 'talking back to the teacher'. (Thankfully the exams were internal)

So yeah, good on you! :)

I completly agree with you. I've experienced this on several occasions when doing maths test in class but also in my year 10 maths mock which we did in class, the girl next to me kept suffling around and looking over to my paper (it didn't do her any good as that particular answer was wrong anyway) but i just find it so irritating when people do this. In a lesson she even moved my arm so she could see my answer. I don't sit near her anymore.

Yes you did the right thing, why should they take credit for your hard work?! This happened to me, ironic thing i hadn't revised either so they were copying wrong answers hahaha

Yeah, you did the right thing !! copying is wrong! I'm surprised that the fact that his paper could be ripped up by them if he is caught cheatinghasn't been drilled into his head yet by other teachers. However, it seems exam invidulators are really slack. In an exam, a girl sitting infront and a girl sitting behind kept laughing, looking back (I checking if she was looking at my paper, but she wasn't ) and she kept making 'tick tock' noises with her tongue. They each went to the toilets 3 times and only warned by the invidulators about twice, and nothing happend. this was a REAL EXAM!

To be honest I think invigilators need to knuckle down on 'suspicious' people in the exam. They get away with murder! I think people only do it because you get paid and it's not that hard. In my an exam today my calculator wasn't working and I had my hand up high above my head and it took one of them 5 minutes to realise that something was wrong. I asked to borrow a calculator and it must have took the woman at least 2 minutes to replace it. Also when she gave it me it was set in a dodgy mode so I had to sort it out! Overall that wasted about 10 minutes and I was fuming because I had to rush the last question. Half of them are clueless and in their own little world

Tell me about it, I had two invigilators who decided to have a nice little gossip chat right next to my table in the middle of my chemistry GCSE exam, and chemistry is by far my worst subject. So don't worry, you're not alone in that. I hate invigilators.

Yesterday I had my turkish writing exam with some year 11s doing their PE GCSE. I remember two invigilators surrounding me for a minute or so every 10 minutes. Every time i looked at the clock an invigilator just stared at me and went near me. I was so under pressure because of all the invigilators walking around my table and for some reason they mostly paid attention to me =_=

They can be so off putting and some are paid to do absolutely nothing!

That reminds me of one in my French listening exam, they play the passage through twice, it was the last question and it played once and then she told everyone the exam was over whilst it was still playing and so when the CD repeated it nobody heard it and protested. She did nothing about it and collected our papers in! It was the last question so very hard therefore it was important people reheard it. Luckily I managed to get the answer but it is still a disgrace and so wrong to happen in a REAL exam

There should be some kind of training now so they actually know what to do and not just make up the rules as they go along

Stupid invigilator. I remembered every time I was looking in the dictionary yesterday a invigilator always went beside me. What was I going to do?!?! IT'S A FRICKENING DICTIONARY!!!

Posted: 24-05-12 21:35 by LP-FTW

haha! Well, the alternative is to give them a death glare. It makes you seem quite cold but they go away when they're bothering you! (For a while anyway)

Posted: 24-05-12 22:02 by Ed

I don't know how people r able 2 cheat in real exams. We're nt even allowed 2turn our heads.

Yep. Turn your head to the left-YOU'RE CHEATING! Turn your head to the right-YOU'RE CHEATING! Look up for a second-YOU'RE CHEATING!

People reckon the new iPod nanos are being smuggled into exam halls, they are really small and can be worn as a watch therefore aren't obvious and can be hidden under long sleeves so people wear them and I'm sure you can save some kind of image and photos on them such as equations, definitions, etc...
Why do it though? What IF you got caught?! You get a big fat zero and if you have any other exams with the same exam board you can be disqualified

Actually I heard about someone who for their English university final exams for their essay, they wrote it out on various pages of the dictionary, and just copied it out onto the page, because you were allowed to take your own dictionary in then... I don't know if you still can now though :P
