Caring jobs related to science?

Showing 1 to 19 of 19

What science related jobs are there that involves helping people EXCLUDING medecine?

I'm not sure what I want to do in the future but something I'd like to have a caring profession! I'm taking biology, chemistry, english and french for a levels by the way.

Thanks! :)

What about scientific research???

Posted: 22-09-12 22:36 by Amba

This probably comes under the medicine category, but nursing or midwifery? Or you could do something with animals like a veterinary nurse?? That's helping people and their pets :) Have you considered animals or something else that's caring but not with people?

-teaching science (university/college/primary and secondary)

-venetiary (vet/nurse)

-scientific researcher/analyst

-Midwife

-Nursing (children/adult./mental heath)

-radiographer

- pharmacist

-forensic science

there are so many more you need to explore...these are some i could think from the top of my head

Thanks for all your suggestions so far. :)

@joanne, hehe no I wouldn't be able to do deal with animals, I'd be too scared :P It looks like you want to be a vet yourself judging from your profile pic? :D

I hope you're not referring to anything illegal there.....

By medicine to you mean studying to become a doctor or anything relating to the medical profession?
It's be difficult to go into caring and completly stay away from medicine, even if you're not administering it yourself

But biology and chemistry are excellent choices for going into a science field

I Think Ruby has some excellent career options but i don't think they all relate for caring for people as such - i mean you could argue working the checkouts at tesco is caring.
The ones i do agree with however are

  • Vetinary - if you don't want to go into medicine then maybe a vet isn't for you, however a vet nurse might be. Vet nurses hand things to the vet and prepare the animal and give minor treatments without the qualification needed for a vet - actually scrap that just read another comment
  • midwife - you don't study anywhere as intensively as a doctor  and you don't do many medical procedures but you get to look after ladies through the different stages of pregnancy and it also doesn't require that high a levels - CCC at Worcester, higher/lower elsewhere (my friend is doing it and really enjoying it) - http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore-by-career/midwifery/
  • Nursing - hear you will see a lot more of the medical side of it, maybe assist in surgery- you will be seeing a lot more of the medical side of it http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore-by-career/nursing/
  • Primary (reception stage) teacher- you don't really care for anyone above that age

Others i would add

Thanks Alex for so many ideas! :) Sorry! By medecine I meant studying to become a doctor XD So I meant a career which doesn't involve studying medecine although I do intend to go to university to study a degree.

The A-Z link looks very useful! I shall look into it! :)

@akeel Wow, I think you have found my vocation in life! I would love to be a street pharmacist! ;) :P

furuba fan yeah I do want to be a vet! :) So have you decided on a career path then?
And how can you be scared of animals?! ;)

@joanne Good luck! Are you in year 12 or 13? :) I still haven't made up my mind but I still have a year to wait anyway since I've only just started my AS levels. And well, I am absolutely terrified of spiders and bugs so that wouldn't be helpful if I were to be a vet. I do like other animals though especially birds! My best friend can't decide if she wants to be a vet or a doctor lol!

@alex I see from your profile that you've been accepted into uni? Congratulations! :) May I ask which one? ;)
