Hi which sort of sources question do you want to know about because they can be structured differently

I'm not doing the USA paper but I can tell you that you need to write for general sources questions: what the message of the source is, what you can see in the source (eg a plane)and how it relates to the topic and then put in some of your own knowledge (this is important as it is how you get the hightest marks)

Hope this helps :)

These are generalised :

1. What can you learn about Source A ?   ( 6 marks)

2. What was the purpose of Source B ? ( 8 marks)

3. How far do these sources agree...... (10 marks)

4. How useful are sources D and E as evidence ..... ? (10 marks)

5. How far do the sources in this paper support this statement? (16 marks )]

For the shorter mark questions (6 and 8 marks):

  • write about the message of the source,
  • what you can see in the source (if it is a picture) or what the source tells you (if it is writing) and explain how it links to the topic you have been studying.
  • Add in some contextual knowledege (your own knowledge preferably on something that is not shown in the source to get extra marks).
  • Remember to quote from the source to back up your explaination

For longer mark questions:

  • do the same as you did for the shorter mark questions but write about as many sources as needed and compare them
  • at the end come to a conclusion that answers the question but try to make it an non biased answer so you say I think source D is useful because ... but source E is also useful because...
  • Have a look at the mark scheme to show you how to reach the different levels and get the highest marks:
  • Also on my profile there are some tips for the sources paper resources
  • They are for Britain not the USA but they should still be helpful

use DESK

Describe the source

Sources-use them

Knowledge- include your own background knowledge in your answer

also for the longer questions include a conclusion and use all the sources they ask you too.

If you have time in a question cross reference sources as it will make your point stronger.

you have 1hr and 30 mins for this paper so time yourself so you have enough time for the longer questions at the end
