Hi Purple Jaguar

I'm taking the same exam tomorrow. The hyrdological cycle is:

  • Precipiation is evaportated and transported without ever reaching the ground (the water is known as green water)
  • Precipitation is also infiltrated into the soil where it's stored as groundwater
  • If it rains heavily then the precipiation drips from leaves and stems into the river/ocean system
  • Evapotranspiration occurs
  • Condensation occurs
  • The process repeats

If you have any other questions just comment :)

Hi Georgia,

Thanks for your answer!
And I was just thinking that isn't there stuff to do with groundwater flow and percolation??
I'm not sure, there probably isn't but in an exam paper we had to do at school there was a question saying Explain the hydrological cycle and i was stuck on answering it :/

Thanks :D

I don't know much about it but percolation is the movement of water into underlying rocks and that water in the rocks is groundwater.

I hope that fills the gap for you if you need anything else just comment :)

yes the flows such as

infiltration- water soaks into the ground

percolation- water moves vertically down through soil and rock

throughflow- water in soil runs downhill

groundwater flow- water in a rock flows downhill

surface run off- water flows overground

channel flow- flow of water in the river

^ these are all how water flows from one place to another in many ways, often called flow!

water can also be held for example

interception is when water doesnt land on ground but is stored in leaves and plants.

surface storage- water is held in rivers and puddles

channel storage- water held in the river!

hope this helps a bit:p
