# Can I have some help on this question please?

Ok, this is the final stretch of exams- (two left!!!) and Im confused on this factorisation question.

It says 'Factorise X(squared) + 9. Im not sure if you can factorise this?! If so, how do you do it?

Thank you!

• (x+3)(x+3) I thinkk! :)

^ Not too sure though now looking at it :/

Ah. That makes sense! Thank you! Ive only been taught to do stupidly hard ones for my additional maths exam and forgot about ones like this! But would that give you x (squared) + 6x + 9?

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 12:45 by Me :D

yeah my mathswatch didnt have it either...is yours the one with the really patronising lady on it?

and aw..but on the bright side, if you do well then its something nice to celebrate:)

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 12:47 by AmyPond

aha yeaahh had to restrain myself from hitting the screen :P but then again, if i didnt use mathswatch, i'd have been so screwed! so thank you patronising lady xD and yeah true, i guess xD

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 12:49 by Me :D

Im the same;) At the end of an exercise with her explaining something, even on the a/a* bit Im like

"IM 16 YEARS OLD DOING MY GCSES NOT A FOUR YEAR OLD TODDLER STOP TALKING TO ME LIKE I HAVE A CABBAGE FOR A BRAIN LADY!" and take deep breaths..:L seirously though she needs to re-evaluate the way she talks to teenagers...

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 12:57 by AmyPond

Hahahahaha! I know right! maybe as the grades go up, she should start talking more and more normally xD was it just me who had this or.. like, when you have a past paper and you dont know how to do a question, you go on mathswatch for the topic and it gives you the most basic type of that question and youre like WHUUUT. and then you frantically search google for the question xD

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 13:05 by Me :D

yeah maybe- however,if i was a D grade student i think it would be degrading to be talked to like that. and yeah- all the time! mathswatch is good for basics but thats about it...speaking of which, do you know what standard deviation is?? its not on there...

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 13:20 by AmyPond

True.. yeah maybe we just need a new person :P and i used to be really bad at maths, i used to sleep in most of the lessons and my teacher pretty much hated me :L but then in the week before the maths linear exam, i just went on mathswatch loooaadss for like a week, and i got an A! definately never doing maths again, ever, though xD and it says its the "spread of data" so to me, it seems like box plots? but im not sure o.O

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 13:27 by Me :D

Ah Im doing Maths, Maths stats and physics (as well as english) for A level, so its gonna be fun! What about you?

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 13:49 by AmyPond

I don't think you can factories it unless it was factories x^2-9 which would be (x+3)(x-3) which is the difference of two squares!

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 14:02 by Dilly

ah - ok thanks:) Yeah it was on my past paper as X(squared) + 9- maybe its a typo?? also, do you know how to factorise

49 x(squared) - 100 y(squared) . the x and y values are the only squared terms:)

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 14:03 by AmyPond

That would be the same thing as 49 and 100 are square numbers so....

(7x+10y)(7x-10y)

Did you do the additional maths exam at then end of may because thats what I did?

Answered Sat 16th June, 2012 @ 14:05 by Dilly
