STM: Limited capacity: 7 (+/-2) "chunks" of information (meaning 5-9 "chunks")

Encoding is generally acoustic

LTM: Unlimited capacity

Mostly semantic encoding (but also visual and acoustic)

Duration is how long the information is held in any given memory store.

The duration of the STM is about 15 seconds if the information is not rehearsed.

The duration of the LTM is anything from 2 hours. ( 2 hours - a lifetime, potentially)
