Are nitrates the same as the element nitrogen?

If you are talking about soil nutrients are the nitrates used by plants to make protein the same as the element nitrogen.

I really need help and would appreciate if someone could answer my question

Nitrates have nitrogen in them and are in the form of a NO3- which means it is an ion. This just makes it easier to absorb into plants. It is not ecatly the same as nitrogen because it is in the form of a ionic compound but is used by plants to make proteins!
