look at past paper questions, try and answer a few using just bullet pointed phrases or keywords, then look at the mark schemes that match the paper. I find that this focuses your mind on what you need to be writing.

I am also retaking the first paper, at the same time as studying for the second, so I know exactly what you are going through!!

Hi, I've been revising for my AQA AS LEVEL Sociology exam that's coming up in January '14 and the best advice I can personally give is to use flashcards! They are small but ever so effective! Use the flashcards mainly for theories and dates.

If however, you need to remember the actual content of the topics then I suggest use A3 paper to some up the key points within that topic, once you've completed your notes, do a past paper, check the mark scheme and so forth.

If it's the exam technique you're struggling with, I've got some tips also: the first question they always ask you to define a term, do this and provide an example to show you really understand.

Second question, 4 marks, just bullet point these with an example, same with the six mark questions.

Then the essays, really what I find most useful is to define any terms and then take it from there, eg:

Definition- example

Marxists say... [whatever] Cooleys theory states... what's negetive of this theory? or good about it?

and then just follow this throughout...

- There are usually two 24 mark essays, you really just need to score 14 marks for both of them plus the other 12 marks available in q1,2 and 3 to get an A.

Hope this has helped in some way, all of these tips are from my sociology teacher who is an examiner!
