Hi Furuba Fan

I remembered it like this:

Mitosis - two i's = two identical cells

Meiosis - e and s = egg and sperm = mother and father's chromosomes

The way to remember which is haploid and which is diploid is:

Diploid - works better when you write it out but mitoisis and diploid have two i's in the same place when they're written underneath each other

Therefore meiosis is haploid

Hope this helps :)

Meiosis is the cell division that produces reproductive cells (gametes) needed for sexual reproduction. It is where the nucleus divides into four nuclei each containing half the number of chrosomes.

Mitosis is the cell division that produces identical cells for growth and repair. It is where the nucleus divides in two nuclei each containing the correct number (all) the chromosomes.

This might be a bit weird but I go to a girls school... and this is what our teacher taught us and its easy to remember because it rhymes (and it is a little bit funny to!)....

Meiosis happens in my ovaries and mitosis happens in my toes!! :D
