SURE! :D

-Use a range of connectives and other vocabulary

-Mention themes (man's power over nature, the american dream, loneliness)

-Use Steinbeck's name

-Use PQC (point, quote, comment)

-Say how the themes are relevant to the time period, EG the the theme of the American dream is relevant to the economic situation in 1930's America, because people didn't have anything else to hope for.

-Make sure you're answering the question.

-make your intro simple and relevant to the question (if the question is 'how does Steinbeck use detail to present the bunkhouse and it's inhabitants in this extract?' say 'In this extract Steinbeck uses details to present the bunkhouse when he says....'

-Mention how Steinbeck uses writing techniques (alliteration, metaphors, repetition, etc)

hope this helped:)

BBC Bitesize has videos that summarise the characters and plots of both stories and they give some quotes. They are much more interesting than having to read through the texts over and over again.
