I am currently picking my A levels and I am stuck between History and psychology. What are they like for anyone who taking them and is history really difficult? Thank you : )

I don't do psychology but I dropped history after 3 weeks because it was difficult. It is not actually hard - there is just a lot to learn and a lot of essays, but if you really like it then go for it. Psychology is hard - as i have heard from friends who take it, but again it's very interesting.

I'd say that it really depends on what you like more, but i'd reccomend psychology - i have seen the work that my friends do and it looks very interesting, but there is a lot to learn and again there are essays.

It also depends on the other subjects you are doing. Take the one you enjoy more, but also the one which compliments your other subjects. I took biology, chemistry and physics, so history didn;t really fit in that well with it, which is why i dropped it - all 4 were too much work. I preferred focusing on 3 but most people cope with 4.

Hope this helps.

hi, i do psychology and i really enjoy it, its one of my favourite subjects, the topics are really interesting, yes there are alot of essays but they are all structured in the same way so once you get the technique right, they aren't too hard. i don't do history myself but a lot of my friends do it and they find it hard, there are a lot of essays too but they are much longer than psychology ones and there is much more content to learn and understand. myself i'd go for psychology over hsitory but as tilly says it depends on what other subjects you are taking and what interests you most. hope this helps

I just wanted to add that the history essays are quite horrible - not to put you off but you have to write in a lot of detail in order to get the marks and you don't have a long amount of time to write the essay out. On my first (and only) essay I got 7/14 for about 3 pages of detailed writing. We had a time limit of 20 minutes too.

Thank you Tilly and Thegirlwhoknewtoomuch that was very helpful. I do history now and don't enjoy it alot but psychology seems really interesting so I might go for that. Again thanks for replying and I will defiantly take the advice : )

Good choice. I think psychology is better, even though I don't do it. Just reading my friend's work and knowing what history is like, I think you made the right choice.

Glad we could help :) If you need any more information you can ask either myself or thegirlwhoknewtoomuch.

Good luck :)
