• Gravitational Potential Energy
• = Energy due to Height
• Gravitational Potential Energy = mass X gravitational field strength X height
• GPE = m X g X h
• Kinetic Energy
• Depends on mass & speed
• More it weighs & the faster it's going = bigger kinetic energy
• Kinetic Energy transferred = work done
• A moving car = lots of kinetic energy & to slow it down, the energy needs to be converted to other types of energy
• Kinetic energy needs to be converted to heat energy (as FRICTION between wheels & brake pads) = temperature of brakes rises
• Kinetic Energy Transferred = Work Done by Brakes
• 1/2 X m X v squared = F X d
• Falling Objects convert POTENTIAL energy into KINETIC energy
• Gravitational Potential Energy
• = Energy due to Height
• Gravitational Potential Energy = mass X gravitational field strength X height
• GPE = m X g X h
• Kinetic energy GAINED = Potential energy LOST
• Some is also transferred to HEAT & SOUND
