  • Women on the great plains.
  • The women had to forge connections between other homesteaders as in hard times morale was low and the connections between your neighbors would be all you had.
  • women would be in charge of keeping the family warm, clean, happy, healthy and clothed.
  • women were in  charge of medical care and hygeine. the sod houses were impossible to keep clean as insects lived in the walls, ceiling and floors of the house.
  • women had to treat injuries and many remedies were used to sickness and injuries.
  • Women were also the teachers for the schools on the plains. the conditions were poor and the women had to face ignorance and prejudice. the pay was low wand the women usually lived with the family of the children they taught and had to pledge that they wouldn't get married within three years.
