  • Unit 2 Section B - Sampling Methods and Experiments WJEC 2022
    • Sampling Methods
      • Random Sampling
        • *Random Technique* Every member of the target population has an equal chance of being selected.
        • Strengths - No researcher bias. They do not pick the participants. Weakness - May end up being accidentally unrepresentative. - Lowers External Validity
      • Volunteer Sampling
        • Participants put themselves forward
        • Strengths- Time and Cost Effective. Weaknesses - Volunteer Bias - Lowers External Validity
      • Opportunity Sampling
        • Select People who are available at the time of the study
        • Strength - Time and cost effective. Weaknesses-Likely to be unrepresentative. - Lowers External Validity
      • Quota Sampling
        • Selected according to their frequency in the population. Within each group, participants are chosen by the researcher.
        • Strengths - Representative. Improves External Validity. Weaknesses- Researcher Bias
      • Stratified Random Sampling
        • Selected according to frequency in population. Within each group, paticipants are selected randomly
          • Strengths - Representative - Improves External Validity. Weaknesses- Time Consuming and expensive
      • Systematic Sampling
        • Every nth Person
          • Strengths - Objective System- no Bias. Weaknesses - Accidentally unrepresentative - Lowers external Validity
      • Snowball Sampling
        • Small group of participants who each recruit their own participants
          • Strengths - Can access difficult to reach groups. Weaknesses - Not representative - Lowers External Validity
    • Experimental Methods
      • Lab Experiment
      • Field Experriment
      • Quasi Experiment
      • Natural Experiment
      • Participant Observation
      • Non- Participant Observation
      • Content Analysis
      • Questionsaire
      • Structured INterview
      • Semi-structured Interview
      • Correlations
