  • Why we use setting / streaming
    • Everyone gets the education thats right for them
    • Able students are not held back
    • Tickly (2006) argues gender and ethnicity play a part. Afro-Carribean pupils are under represented in top sets.
    • School pressure to improve results and league table positions.
    • Pupils can be prepared for different levels of exams.
    • Weakest students get more attention.
  • Setting and streaming
    • Setting: For each subject you are placed into a 'set' based on ability.
    • Streaming: Each ability group are taught seperately from others for all subjects. (All classes with some group of people)
