        • Hitler asked to be Chancellor but Hindenburg said no

      • Hindenburg was a national hero but Hitler ran against him in April 1932.
        • Hindenburg still won the election however.

          • Hitler would make von Papen, vice-chancellor
          • Hindenburg agreed with von Papen's advice; thinking he could control Hitler
            • But Hitler used his power to hold another election in March 1933  to make the Nazis stronger in the Reichstag
