- Humans live in groups and any group needs laws to know how to behave
- We need laws so people can work hard and know that no one can take something that belongs to you. Society would not function if people worked hard and bought things and others stole things- no one would bother to work hard
- Laws protect the weak form the strong
- Laws help to keep everything organised
