- Marshal reissued MC in H's name - brought te barons back over to Henry - they opposed John not kingship itself
- Henry was crowned quickly by Marshal (organised by Peter des Roches) - didn't even wait for Ranulf, Earl of Chester to turn up

- young William Marshal and William Longspee laid seige to Winsheter in Henry's name
- Marshal made the decisive move to attack Louis' army at Lincoln when his forces were split in half - WtM knew this was the only opportunity to win as the country would have run out of money very soon
- Nicola de Haye held out at lincoln for 4 months before asking for help from Marshal - kept part of Louis' army out of action
- guala continually excommunicated the rebel barons and Louis himself

- John's friendship with the pope
- England = feudal state of the Vatican - a holy place - the pope had much to lose
- kept Guala onside - more excommunications
- rebel barons could not use religious indiscretions against Henry
- Rebels knew they were fighting against god
- Henry could be crowned quickly
- Geography
- Louis had to leave through dover or one of the other Cinques Ports
- There were always ways to get around this so it wasn't a huge issue
- Had to get reinforcements from across the sea
- Issues with the wind made it harder to cross the channel
- woods for Wiilliam of Kensham to hide in - Louis wasn't experienced in the English geography
- power was decentralised
- Louis could take London but that didn't mean he had control of the kingdom
