  • Why did Italy enter WW1
    • The demonstrations held all over Italy in town squares by right wing supporters had an effect on the public opinion
    • The Entente powers were spreading propaganda to get Italy to join them
    • The press was filled with interventionists
      • They used patriotism and intellect to popularise their Views
        • Some of these journalists included Mussolini & D'Annunzio at "Il Popolo D'Italiano
    • Italy Negotiated with The Entente and the Triple Alliance to see who would offer the best deal.
      • The Germans offered the Irredenta lands in a last ditch attempt for Italy to remain neutral or join the alliance
        • However this failed as A-H didn't want to give up the Irredenta  & an agreement couldn't be reached.
    • Italy had imperialistic ambitions
      • if they were to join on the winning side of the war they would have the chance to become the dominant power in the Adriatic sea
    • While Giolitti was opposed to intevention. He didn't want to oppose to vigorously and risk being abdicated by the king
    • Salandra and Sannino negotiated the Treaty Of London without parliamentary approval
      • they only needed the support of the king to do so
        • however they needed parliamentary support to declare war
