- Limited resources
- Will prevent them from using the correct things in order to arrest them
- The Home Office
- The have the say on all of the crimes that are prioritised
- Witnesses/ Evidence
- The more evidence/ witnesses you have, the more chance you will have catching the offender
- The amount of victims
- If there are many victims, the crime will be prioritised in order to receive justice much quicker
- How many times the crime is reported/ committed
- People will have concerns if crime is reported more than once, public may lose hope.
- Severity
- If a more serious crime e.g murder takes place, they will prioritise violent crimes before petty crimes
- If other crimes are involved
- The police will prioritise the crimes committed in order to catch the offender
- Complexity
- More complex crimes will be lower down as not many will understand them
- Media
- May create a moral panic, the police will need to act fast - public to feel at peace
- Ripple effect
- If more than one group are affected, that crime will be prioritsed
- Anti-social behaviour
- Could lead on to bigger crimes later on in life - broken windows theory
- Local population
- If the local population have a concern, the police must battle it, as it is their job
- If they are personally affected
- If police are personally threatened they will prioritise that crime
- Danger/worry
- Police have a duty to protect general public - emotions and behaviour can alter that
- Limited resources
