- Who did not benefit from the economic boom of the 1920's?
- Black People
- Many black people suffered discrimination from others. This was worsened with the revival of the KKK.
- They were less likely to be given jobs and often worked as farmers or share-croppers.
- Farmers
- New machinery became a more efficient way to obtain crops so many farmers were no longer needed.
- Because of the new machinery, farmers were making too much food. The prices fell and they received less money.
- Industrial Workers
- Similarly with miners, people working in old industries suffered with competition from modern industries.
- Raw materials, such as cotton, tin and copper, were produced quicker with new machinery.
- Over production meant lower wages.
- Miners
- There were more modern methods used to create electricity so coal was not needed.
- Many mines were closed and miners' wages were cut.
- New Immigrants
- By the time these new immigrants had arrived, most of the jobs had been taken.
- Many of them could not speak English so had to take any job available. This made them vulnerable to exploitation.
- Black People
