      • Rio de Janeiro is situated on Brazils Atlantic coast. 
      • It has grown up around a large bay known as Guanabara bay.
      • Until 1960 Rio was the capital of Brazil but the capital is now Brasilia.
    • Land uses
      • Rio has a large number of mountains, costs and squatter settlements Rio is split up into 4 different zones.
        • North zone:This is were the cities main industrial port areas are located along with the cities national airport. This is also an area of low-quality houses and favelas.
          • Centro: This is the oldest part of the city, with many historic buildings, it is also the cities CBD and main shopping area. Also, it is the cities financial headquarters.
