- What were the main terms of the Treaty of Versailles?
- Germany could not join in the new League of Nations.
- Germany must hand over its colonies abroad to the winning countries.
- The war was Germany's fault, so Germany must pay for the cost of the war- £6.6billion.
- They had to take the blame of the whole war- which is not true.
- This money was known as reparations. It was paid to the winners in installments until 1988.
- Large areas of German land was used to create new countries for people who had been previously ruled by others-Poland and Zechoslovakia
- No German soliders should enter the Rhineland, an area of Grermany next to France.
- Germany was only allowed a small army (100,000 soliders), a small navy (six battleships), and no tanks, submarines or airforce.
- Germany must never unite with Austria again.
