    • New theories have arisen in the form of conflict theorism, since the 80s.
    • The 3 main functions of a theory:
      • Explanation
        • This can be tested against evidence.
        • This is used by mainstream perspectives on global politics.
      • Interpretation
        • This is associated with critical theories.
      • Normative
        • This prescribes values and standards of conduct.
