- What is a PG
- A PG is an organise group of people, that aims to influence the policies or actions of govt
- PGs seek to influence from outside pressure, rather than win or exercise govt power.
- This means that they do not make policy decisions, but influences those who do so, such as MPs.
- They usually have a narrow issue focus, focusing on one issue.
- E.g. UKIP
- Members of PGs are united by a shared belief in a particular cause or common sets of interests.
- This means that members may have different ideological or party preferences, but will work happily together as members of the same PG
- PGs are vital to civil society, as they often operate outside the govts
- meaning the govt act as a channel between the govt and the people
