- Conflict or disagreement that has been largely evident throughout history
- There are 4 main types of warfare
- 1. Civil wars
- 2. Wars of Liberation
- 3. Wars between nation states
- 4. Holy Wars often in sacred sites such as Israel etc.
- Pacifism in Christianity
- Non-Violence: there are 2 types including contingent and preferential
- Examples include the Quakers and Thomas Merton (R.C. Monk)

- The Bible has a number of attitudes to war:
- Matthew 5:9 - "Blessed are the peacemakers"
- "A new commandment... love one another as I have loved you" (John 13:34)
- "Those who live by the sword will perish (die) by the sword" (Matthew 26:52)
