    • 'Like a satellite wrenched from its orbit, go drifting away..'
      • Wrenched - hurt, painful, violent
      • Father might feel as if his son is being taken away from him.
      • Orbit - represents the father, family life, home.
      • Satellite represents the son/child.

    • 'Eddying away. Like a winged seed loosened from its parent stem.'
      • Eddying - nautical imagery - seas, air - circular movement.
      • Seed - son
      • Parent stem - father
      • The son is finding his own way
      • Loosened - delicate, gentle, careful.
      • The son is  finding his own way and although the father isn't ready for him to leave, he understands.
    • 'How selfhood begins with a walking away, and love is proved in the letting go.'
      • The father knows the son needs to leave to grow independent.
      • Resolution: children must become independent by leaving and parents must let them go.
