- ZPD - Zone of proximal development
- The gap between what the child knows and what the child will know with a little bit of help from someone more advanced
- Social speech- is used by children to communicate to others
- Private speech- is directed to their self and is used for self- direction
- Vygotsky believed that thought and language are separate systems until around the age of 3 years
- Supporting speech- use very close observation to be able to see where they are struggling and plan for their next steps. Questioning and modelling language to develop language skills.
