- Viola
- Represents a contrast to other major characters! Her dramatic function is to lead Olivia and Orsino out of their fantasies about love and teaches them about real love!
- Viola represents true love as she isn't self-seeking and is self-sacrificing. Her love for Orsino is deep and pure. She even woos Olivia for Orsino, even though she loves him.
- Not interested in status but in individuals.
- Shakespeare disguises her to show that she is a complex character.
- Viola is a witty person and has also has a native intelligence which allows her to be able to work for Orsino.
- It is confusing to see someone with these qualities fall in love with a moody character like Orsino.
