  • SCENE 1
    • The scene is set in amongst a storm, a previous battle has just come to an end.
    • We are introduced to the witches, who begin to speak in riddles and of the future events to come...
    • The previous Thane of Cawdor is sentenced to death following his betrayal of the King during the battle.
    • ACT 1
      • SCENE 2
        • The Thane is executed, and Macbeth is given his title instead.
        • Both Banquo and Macbeth are rewarded for their bravery during battle, and strongly praised by the King.
      • SCENE 3
        • On their return home, Banquo and Macbeth run in to the group of witches.
          • They are told of their futures and fortunes to come, and Macbeth is predicted to be King.
          • Banquo is told that his sons shall be kings, however, he himself shall not.
      • SCENE 4
        • We see King Duncan praise Macbeth once more, and declare him as heir to the throne.
          • This leaves Macbeth in doubt, however, as he is aware that Malcom still stands in his way of the throne.
        • King Duncan plans to visit Macbeth's castle.
      • SCENE 5
        • Lady Macbeth receives a letter from her husband, telling her of the events that have recently occurred.
          • She begins to fanaticise about gaining power, and asks the spirits to fill her with 'cruelty'.
        • Upon Macbeth's arrival home, Lady Macbeth tells him of her plans to kill the King, which he refuses to discuss at that moment in time.
      • SCENE 6
        • Duncan arrives at Macbeth's castle and is welcomed profusely by the couple.
          • Later on in the evening, Lady Macbeth finds her husband deep in thought and avoiding the feast inside with the King.
            • They begin to speak further of the plot to be rid of Duncan, and plan to do it that night.
      • SCENE 7
        • After much persuasion, Macbeth gets convinced to kill Duncan.
          • Here we begin t see Lady Macbeth showing signs of losing control to the power before her...
