- Misuse of drugs acts 1971 states it is an offence to
- Possess a controlled substance unlawfully
- Possess a controlled substance with intent
- Supply or offer to supply a controlled drug (even when no charge is made for the drug)
- To allow to premise you occupy or manage to be used for the purpose of drug taking
- Class A drugs e.g. ecstasy, LSD, heroin, cocaine, magic mushrooms, amphetamine (if prepared for injection)
- Possession: up to 7 years in prison or unlimited fine or both
- Dealing: up to life in prison
- Class B drugs: cannabis, Ritalin, amphetamines
- Possession: up to 5 years in prison or unlimited fine or both
- Dealing: up to 14 years in prison
- Class C drugs: tranquillisers, some painkillers, GHB, ketamine
- Possession: up to 2 years in prison or unlimited fine or both
