    • Internalisation
      • Genuine acceptance of group norms= changing views PUBLICLY and PRIVATELY
      • Deepest level of conformity
      • Permanent change in private beliefs and public beh
      • EG: person influenced by group of Buddhists=  converts to this faith, =their new religious way of life will continue without presence of the group and they have internalised this belief
    • Compliance
      • Changing view PUBLICLY but NOT PRIVATELY= type of NSI
      • Lowest level of conformity
      • EG: wanted to be liked by friends by saying you like their type of music when internally you don't:
    • Identification
      • A group membership
      • Change PUBLIC beh. and PRIVATE beliefs= but only when in presence of certain group
      • The change of our private beliefs is not permanent= only when with group do they change
      • EG: when with friends who are all vegetarians= you do not eat meat and you believe you shouldn't eat meat because you value the the groups beliefs= but when alone and walking past McDonald's, you can resist to eat a burger
