- What is it?
- the pancreas does not develop any insulin which is needed to regulate blood glucose levels, therefore blood glucose becomes too high
- Symptoms
- feeling very thirsty
- urinating frequently (particularly at night)
- feeling very tired
- weight loss and loss of muscle bulk
- Causes
- usually inherited
- Treatment
- insulin injections
- blood test with G.P. every 2-3 months (as well as checking it everyday themselves)
- optician will carry out screening for diabetic retinoparthy
- chiropodist for specialised foot care
