    • What is it?
      • the pancreas does not develop any insulin which is needed to regulate blood glucose levels, therefore blood glucose becomes too high
    • Symptoms
      • feeling very thirsty
      • urinating frequently (particularly at night)
      • feeling very tired
      • weight loss and loss of muscle bulk
    • Causes
      • usually inherited
    • Treatment
      • insulin injections
      • blood test with G.P. every 2-3 months (as well as checking it everyday themselves)
      • optician will carry out screening for diabetic retinoparthy
      • chiropodist for specialised foot care
