- TRANSPIRATION EXPERIMENT
- POTOMETER
- Investigate the rate of transpiration in different environmental conditions
- Measures the rate of uptake of water by a plant
- Proportional to the rate of transpiration
- STEP 1
- Set up potometer : Cut the stem of a fresh twig at an angle under water
- STEP 2
- Insert the cut end into the rubber tubing, under water
- STEP 3
- Remove twig and capillary tubing from the water and check the apparatus is air tight
- Achieved if MENISCUS moves slowly towards the leaf
- Remove twig and capillary tubing from the water and check the apparatus is air tight
- STEP 4
- Allow 5 minutes for the plant to acclimatise
