        • He had to sell ll his shares in the Suez canal to pay Britain back
        • He was replaced by his son Tewfiq in 1879
      • 6- Imports from Egypt reached 40% in England
      • There was a lot of tension building due to the different opinions of British interest in Egypt and in 1882 riots broke out in Alexandria and 50 Europeans died
        • The British PM- william Gladstone sent British Naval forces abroad to bombared Alexandria due to the increase in riots all over Egypt
          • Britain retook Egypt and had it as a 'veiled protectorate'
    • Sudan
      • After Britain started to create the British-Egyptian affairs within Sudan they faced a lot of resentment
        • The Madhists were against any foreign rule in Sudan
          • 1882- Madhists took complete control over areas surrounding Khartoum
            • 1883- They did a counter attack where their Colonel was killed
              • General Gordon ordered for a retreat but before they could escape they were overrun and General Gordon was beheaded
