  • Token Economy Description
    • Desired behaviour is positively reinforced with tokens.
      • Token = Secondary Reinforcer
        • Secondary Reinforcers are exchanged for Primary Reinforcers.
          • Primary reinforcers are often a basic need, such as food or drink.
          • This is called an exchange system.
      • Leads to increase in frequency of desired behaviour.
    • Punishment
      • Used to reduce undesired behaviour.
    • A target behaviour should be set and clearly defined to the subject.
    • Rewards should be consistent whenever desired behaviour is done.
      • 'Continuous reinforcement'
    • Token value should be known and rewards given at set times.
    • Progress should be recorded.
      • Partial reinforcement may be used when inmate is not reinforced every time.
