  • To what extent did the relationship between Blair and Brown damage New Labour
    • When Blair is running for Labour leader, he makes a deal with Brown in which Brown would stand aside in the run for leadership and in 2001, Blair would give Labour to Brown.
      • This meant that there were always tensions between the two at conferences, during legislation being passed and just in general when trying to do their jobs
    • After a biography of Brown is published which contained criticisms of Blair, an anonymous Blair Aide is reported to refer to Brown as "Psychologically flawed"
      • This showed that the two men were constantly taking small digs at each other, could not run together and would certainly struggle to run a country together
    • John Prescott stated there was a "pretty serious breakdown in relations"
      • This shows that the relationship between the two men was not one in which the country would have been thriving in.
    • During 2005 when Blair was recovering from a recurrance heart problem, he says he will serve  a "Full third tem" before he steps down, thus infuriating Brown
      • This shows how Blai lied to Brown to be able to keep his premiership continuing for as long as possible
    • Blair does not give a fixed date for his resignation, leaving brown more angry than before
      • This left Brown feeling used and lied to, which would have meant that their decisions would likely be to spite the other
    • Blair resigns and Brown takes over.
