    • Structuralism-the way in which society influences an individual. Macro. Person a puppet to society
    • Functionalism- Nuclear family. Murdock sexual reproductive economic and primary socialisation. Parsons Primary socialisation + stabilization of adult personalities
      • Feminists - rose tinted view of family, family serves the needs of men. Child abuse etc.. ignored. Marxist ignore role of family for capitalism
      • expect too much from eachother not failed as institution

      • historically inaccurate- monogamous and nuclear family in hunter gatherer... not likely economy purpose
      • Zaretsky- family offers emotional support which actually encourages them to continue with work
        • Somerville, exaggerate importance of refuge under estimates cruelty in family. Early stages of capitalism women worked too!

      • Marx Fem- exploitation essential for capitalism (women's unpaid labour)
        • Ainsley- 'women are takers of ****' domestic + expressive
        • Beechy two roles care for current future workers and reserve army labour
        • diff feminists critique not all women exploited ie. black women.
      • Radical Feminists- all societies characterised by patriarchy- domination. Oppression should be abolished
        • Delphy + Leonard patriarchal institution men get most benefit. ideology = mother housewife + breadwinner man
    • New Right - too much benefits creating dependency culture
    • Post Modernists more choice of relationships. BECK love provides security in an insecure world less frowned upon cohabitation, careers cause conflict = remarriage
