  • The Turning Effect of Forces
    • Moment = force x perpendicular distance from pivot
      • The moment of a force is its 'turning effect'.
      • Levers are used to increase the turning effect (moment) of a force.
    • When several forces act on an object
      • If some forces have a clockwise turning effect & others have an anticlockwise turning effect, they cancel one another out.
        • The object will be in balance.
    • Centre of Gravity
      • The whole of the weight of an object acts through one point of the object.
      • If a shape is suspended from a point, the centre of gravity is immediately below the point from which it is suspended.
