- rod shaped feautres where certain stages of respiration occurs. responsible for production of ATP from carbohydrates -> cells with high level of metabolic activity, many cristae and big mitochondria, to produces plently of ATP
- Epithelial cells used lots of energy produced by mitochonria during active transport
- double membrane - surounds organelle, outer ones conmtrols passage of substances, inner one folded to make cristae
- cristae - shelf like extnsions of inner membrane, some extend across whole of mitchondrion, provide large SA for attachment of enzymes in respiration
