- The Krebs Cycle
- Yield
- Reduced coenzymes
- Eg NAD and FAD
- 1 ATP molecule
- 3 CO2 molecules
- Reduced coenzymes
- Significance
- Breaks down macromolecules into smaller ones
- Pyruvate broken down to CO2
- Produces H atoms which are carried by NAD to the ETC
- For oxidative phosphorylation
- Leads to ATP production
- Provides metabolic energy to the cell
- Regenerates the 4-Carbon molecule which combines with acetyl CoA
- Otherwise it would accumumulate
- Source of intermediate compounds used for other processes
- Breaks down macromolecules into smaller ones
- Yield
