  • The impacts of tourism in the French Alps
    • Local people pay more for everyday items. Homes are expensive & some are second homes.
    • Town can become noisy and congested
    • Access to Chamonix via motorway is good but the rural roads are very narrow
    • Footpaths get eroded
    • Shops, cafes and restaurants are tourist - orientated and expensive
    • Conflicts can arise between different people. Mass tourism - noise and damage to environment
    • Chamonix maintained as an attractive town. Pedestrian streets give safe access
    • Cleaner streets
    • Tourism brings economic benefits, local jobs e.g. guides, hotel staff & sport instructors
    • Extra income supports local services e.g. shops & transport/ healthcare
