        • From 1942 the Allies started bombing German cities - which Hitler promised would never happen. There was a lot of homelessness and destruction to add to the problems

          • By 1943 German forces were being driven back. Bad news was kept from the public by Nazi censorship but it got out anyway. By  1944 it was clear Germany would be defeated
