  • The Five Pillars of Islam
    • Shahadah
      • This is the central pillar
      • It means the declaration of beliefs- which means a statement that Muhammad is the prophet of God and that there is no God but Allah
      • This is all you have to do if you want to be a muslim
      • It is from which all Islamic belief is originated
    • Salah
      • This means prayer
      • This distinguishes the people who are willing to submit to Allah
      • The Image of God that comes from prayer . 1) God is Holy, he is different from humans so people must purify themselves before speaking to Allah. 2) God is the all powerful, to whom's peoples only response it to submit  which is why the worshipper must bow before God- to prostrate himself as a sign of submission to God 3) God is the guide of Muslims so at the beginning of Sa;ah muslims must raise their hands to their ears to show they are willing to listen 4) Gpd is the one and only God 5)The ritau; of prayer is concerned with praising God so we see  that God is great and powerful 6) There is no intermediate between God and Humans. Prayer is offered to God alone
      • It is important  as it puts them into direct contact with God five times a day. It is also important because if makes sure muslims don't forget to submit to Gods will as it is performed 5 times a day. It unites muslims with the Ummah. It is discipline , it forces them to take religion seriously. If you perform it properly you could rid yourself of sin.
    • Zakah
      • This means alms tax which is when Muslims give part of their income to charity to help those in need
      • The point of Zakah is to show that wealth can be an evil thing and c take you away from God
    • Sawm
      • Fasting
      • They do this to show you are a muslim, ramadan is a celebration of the gift of the Qur'am to muslims, fasting brings you closer to god as you concentrate on God instead of other things, it allows them so identify with the poor , promotes self control which is needed for submission,
    • Hajj
      • This is the only pillar which does not have to be performed, it should only be performed if the persons family is adequatley being cared for or if they are in good physical and mental health
      • For muslims this pillar is regarded as the crowing achievment and the unifying element of the muslim faith
      • The pilgrim has followed the exact actions of the prophet Muahmmad and they have taken in an expensive and difficult event to to sho their devotion to God/ The hajj allows them to get as close as possible to God it also makes a muslim aware of the unity of Islam. After Hajj a muslims sins have been forgiven and they can lead the life of a perfect muslim
