  • The Body's Response to Acute Stress.
    • Acute stressors arouse autonomic nervous system
      • Automatic & necessary as some bodily functions may not work as well as they need too if you  had to think about them.
      • Sympathetic branch
        • Arouses an animal to be ready for fight or flight.
        • When animal is exposed to acute stressor, sympathetic nervous system prepares body for fight of flight.
          • Key part of response- sympathetic adrenal medullary system (SAM).
            • sympathetic nervous system & SAM make up the sympathomedullary pathway.
      • Parasympathetic branch
        • Returns an animal to a state of relaxation.
